Our soft sided pet carriers are airline approved and will meet all your travel needs. The  Sherpa carriers are luggage quality and are the safe and comfortable way for a pet to travel. Comfort for the pet is increased using the Sherpa Liners in the bottom of bag. Packs of three are available so you don't get caught with one in the wash. Padded straps on these carriers also relieve the shoulder while carrying on your shoulder. Or look for our new Sherpa on Wheels for the easiest transport.  Classy and lightweight dog  and cat carriers meet the standards for under the seat airplane travel.  Call the airline you are using to receive their special requirements for animals flying on board.  Sherpa carriers are a must have for pets traveling with their owners by plane.

Sherpa Totes are perfect for when you want to be discreet about carrying your pet. The Travelon Tote and various  Sherpa Totes allow for versatility, allowing the dog to stick his head out or  complete enclosure. The totes are stylish and have various compartments for storage and treats.  Our pet totes are durable and practical with styles ranging from casual to fashionable.

Travel Tip: Your pet must be removed from the Sherpa Bag while going thru security. It is best to have your dog or cat used to being in the carrier, before this time.  Carry the bag around the house, load it in the car for a few short trips, and get the animal used to being loaded into and taken out of the carrier before you fly. It will pay off in the end.

Customer Comments:

I just received a Sherpa travel bag and would like to recommend this store to everyone. I had a couple of questions before I ordered and got immediate e mail responses. The emails showed that the owners truly care that their customers get what they need. Even though this is the first week in Dec, I received my item within a few days. I should also mention that the price was lower than anywhere else I could find on the net for this item.I think Little Shop is excellent and will look forward to using it again in the future!

I would also like to say that I have had a wonderful experience buying from this Little Shop of Terrors. I too received emails to answer my questions within hours of having sent them my questions. They were also extremely polite when I called to ask a question. I was sent the wrong bag by Sherpa... not Little Shop, and they were incredibly helpful in fixing this problem. They took care of all my questions, and within a week, I had I high quality tote bag that was perfect for my little one. I hope I get to do business with you again some day. What a great experience!!!

Always Take Your Sherpa Carrier!

Around the Corner Or Across the Globe

Living Magazine

With a travel itinerary of New York this week, California the next and a quick hop to Phoenix before heading across the Atlantic to Paris, Su-Nae definitely qualifies as a jet-setter. However, unlike many who fly the friendly skies, Sunea has four legs instead of two. A constant companion of Gayle Martz, Su-Nae, is a living example of a well-traveled pet. But she's not the beginning of the story.

Back in 1987, former flight attendant, Gayle Martz needed to be able to take her Lhasa Apso, Sherpa, back and forth from New York to L.A. At that time, airlines didn't allow pets in the cabin nor did they allow small dogs to travel as cargo. To solve her problem, Gayle created the first soft-sided pet carrier that would fit discretely under an airplane seat. She also lobbied airlines for pet travel privileges. And her company, Sherpa Pet Trading Company, the leader in airline-approved pet carriers, was born. Thanks to her efforts, the majority of airlines now allow small pets to fly with their owners as passengers rather than cargo.

According to Gayle, pets must be taught to travel. Whether you're driving to the store or flying across the country, safety should be your first priority. A pet riding loose in the car is at a much greater risk for injury than one properly secured in a bag. Gayle also points out that a dog should never be allowed to ride with his head hanging out the window. Dirt and debris can cause eye damage, while a quick stop has the potential to cause severe injuries. "This all comes down to being a responsible pet owner," Gayle said. Travel beins at home with preparation for the trip. Gather food, water, collar, leash and medications, if necessary. Pets love a den environment, and their home away from home should be their carrier. A positive association is created by leaving the carrier on the floor for the dog or cat to use as a bed. Put some favorite treats or toys in the bag and slowly move your pet around your home until he feels comfortable. "Don't just zip him up and leave him there and expect him to know what's happening," Gayle said. "Tell you're pet what you're doing and where he is going."

Safety & Security for Your Pet: Travel Tips for Happy Excursions Together

· Never leave an unattended pet in a zipped-up bag.

· Never ever leave your pet alone in the car.

· If traveling by plane, ask about special regulations regarding pets in-cabin when making a reservation. A current health certificate (within seven to 10 days) including inoculation, is essential. To prevent airsickness, no food should be offered within six hours of departure and your pet should not have water within two hours of flight time. Your pet should remain in the carrier from the time you enter the terminal until you exit the destination terminal.

· If in a car, position the tote in the center of the back seat with the safety belt through the shoulder straps.

· Verify that the hotel allows pets.

· Always carry extra liners and other clean-up materials.

· Be responsible, so business owners will continue to accept people bringing their pets along with them.

· Keep a low profile. There is no need for anyone to know your furry friend is with you.

Tips For the Road
Pet Friendly Travel

Are you worried about leaving your best friend at home or in a strange place when you travel? You're not alone.

Did you know that there are 55 million pet dogs in America today? The Los Angeles Times recently reported that more pets are going on vacation. That means more and more families are taking their beloved dogs, cats and other pets on their road trips this year.

According to a study conducted by the American Animal Association, 53 percent of pet owners vacation or travel with their pets today. No wonder pets are welcome at many hotel chains and campgrounds and this trend is growing in the hospitality industry.

Professional dog trainer Duane Overturf shares some important and helpful tips when considering traveling with your family's companion.

“Why leave your dog at home with a pet sitter or in a kennel when they can come along for the fun,” explains Overturf. “With a little bit of preparation, taking your dog along for the ride can be a wonderful experience for the entire family.”

His tips for dogs translate to any other pets. Start by doing some research for pet friendly lodgings and attractions. The AAA can give you names of hotel and resorts that cater to pets or you can look on line at www.takeyourpet.com, www.dogfriendly.com, www.petswelcome.com, and www.pets-allowed-hotels.com.

1. Make reservations in advance and let the management know that you are bringing your pet. Sometimes, you will be charged a nominal fee.

2. Bring your normal pet food brand and stick to the regular diet throughout your vacation. Changing food can upset your pet’s stomach and may bring on diarrhea. Make sure your bring food and water bowls, or paper plates and bowls.

3. If you are driving long distance with an animal that is used to walking and using the outdoors for other natural functions, stop every three hours to allow your pet to relieve itself , drink some water and stretch. Many gas stations have dog runs. Bring bags to pick up after your dog.

4. Make sure your pet has on its regular identification as well as your cell phone number in case of emergencies. In a pinch, you can write the information in permanent market on a piece of duct tape and attach it to your pets collar.

5. Make sure your air conditioner is working and that your pet stays cool.

6. Bring an old towel with you to clean up after your animal. You can use the old towel to keep your pet cool by getting it wet with cold water and keeping it on your pet or it's carrier. When using water to cool off your pet, don't make it a bath. Riding in an air conditioned car with a wet animal is a good way to wind up at the vet with a sick pet.

7. Bring a first aid kit, grooming supplies and medications with you, as well as an extra collar and sturdy leash, just in case.

8. Buy a pet harness or a crate for your pet to make travel in a car safe. If you should be involved in an accident, the harness or crate will prevent your pet from going through the windshield or escaping if someone should open the car door.

9. Bring your pet’s bed so they will feel at home wherever you are.

10. Don’t leave your pet alone in a vehicle on hot days, even if the windows are rolled down. On warm days, the temperature in your car can rise to 120 degrees in a matter of minutes, even with the windows opened slightly.

Duane Overturf has been training dogs in Los Angeles since 1978. You can get in touch with him at 818-999-3999 or by visiting www.yourbestcompanion.com.
